Activity 1: Be a Poet!

Activity 1:

Choose one of the insects to write a Cinquain Poem. This will express your feelings towards the insect so make sure it is one that you be descriptive with.

Activity 2: Life Cycle

Activity 2:

Choose one insect that you can describe its complete life cycle. Start with the egg and explain each step to the insects' life cycle. Make sure you incorporate how long the insect lives or survives for. You can use pictures as an aid and explain it in words then. This should be about 3-4 sentence or at least one sentence for each step.

Activity 3: Compare and Contrast

Activity 3:
Using the four insects, choose two to compare and contrast in a venn diagram: if you choose the ladybug compare/contrast it with the monarch butterfly and vice versa, if you choose the spider compare/contrast it with the bumblebee and vice versa. Set up two circles with one insect in each and then in the middle is what they have in common. When you blog, list each circle's attributes as bullet points. Then write 2-4 sentences about what surprised you or what you still would like to know about the animals.

Activity 4: Question and Answer

Activity 4:

After learning about your insect and having to draw it for your presentation answer the following questions in your own words:

1. How is an ecosystem like a community?

2. In what ways does your animal work with other surroundings (plants, animals, humans, etc.)

3. Which of the four insects do you think would be able to survive the longest if put in the correct living conditions?

Activity 5: Observe your Insect

Activity 5:
Pick one of the four animals that were taught (ladybug, bumble bee, spider, monarch butterfly), set up an ecosystem for it or observe one outside daily. For the next week, set aside observation time and blog what you see occurring. You can list what you see, hear, smell and feel. Describe what the animal is doing and how it makes a living in it's ecosystem. Describe the weather and what is happening in your surroundings. How are these animals affected by the weather? By humans? By other animals?
